About the event
The Siberian Ice Half Marathon is an annual event officially sanctioned by the Ministry of Youth, Physical Culture and Sport of the Omsk region and included in the Association of International Marathons and Road Races (AIMS) calendar. It is one of the most extreme races in the world, with temperatures ranging from -20 to -42 Celsius. The event has been held for more than 30 years and attracts participants from across Russia and other countries. Each year, 1,500 runners compete in the race, which is a celebration of the Russian Orthodox Christmas and rich cultural traditions of the Siberians. The race can be a challenging experience, with the risks of sweat freezing on your neck, icicles forming on your eyelashes and even your eyes freezing. But don't be afraid - after the race, you will be able to enjoy various activities such as husky rides, visiting traditional villages, and even bravely take part in ice swimming in a Russian banya. If you decide to take part in the race, you will be sent an information letter with further details.

What a fantastic event with organisers who care not only about the race, but all those who take part. The atmosphere, hospitality and aura of the people of Omsk is not to be missed. In a word...Captivating!

Very well organised event. The activities for foreign participants were all good fun and a great way to meet fellow runners. Picturesque course and enthusiastic volunteers. I highly recommend this event to anyone looking for a unique running experience.

This was my second time to run the SIM in Omsk, & it was as brilliant the second time as the first. Remarkably well organized, wonderful staff, and the people and heart of Omsk are truly unforgettable. Highly, highly recommend for anyone with interest in a trip to magical Russia.
