Marathon results
Yuki Kawauchi defended his title against almost 1,000 runners along the Swan River to win the seventh-annual Perth City to Surf Marathon in Perth, Australia.
His time of 2:16:23 was three and a half minutes slower than his record-setting time a year ago but still almost 20 minutes ahead of this year’s runner-up Chris O’Neil (2:35:47).
Justin Kelly took third with a time of 2:47:55.
For the women, it was former winner Magda Karimali-Poulos (2:58:47) back on top after claiming the inaugural marathon in 2009 with a time 2:43:19.
She finished fifth a year ago.
Nera Jareb secured second at this year’s event with a time of 3:01:27.
Rolenda Giorgi (3:03:32) rounded out the top three as the only other runner to come in under three hours and 15 minutes.

Half Marathon results
Francisco Sanzana (1:09:18) cut just over a minute from his fourth-place finish a year ago to win the Perth City to Sun Half Marathon which started in 2007.
Nearly 3,000 runners participated in the main event where Nic Harman (1:10:59) finished second with a time of 1:10:59.
Takashi Nakata (1:11:35) repeated in third despite coming in a minute slower than in 2014.
For the women, it was Cassie Fien (1:14:21) coming in almost two and half minutes faster than a year ago to defending her title.
She set the record in 2009 with a time of 1:15:58.
Runner-up Jules Bennett (1:20:29) cut around three minutes from her fourth-place finish a year ago.
Former winner Rochelle Rodgers (1:23:48) finished a spot behind Bennett last year as well.
She won it in 2012 with a slower time than she posted at this year’s event.
