About the event
Inspired by the stories of cancer survivors from Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport—Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and moved to make a difference in the local community, medical students from LSU Health Shreveport in 2022 started a weekly walking group for survivors and their supporters. In June 2022, the students joined forces with Feist-Weiller to hold the first-ever Cancer Survivorship Walkathon to celebrate survivors, those in treatment, and a community of supporters in North Louisiana while raising funds for Wellness & Integrative Medicine at the cancer center.
Today, the students have formed the Cancer Walking Group and launched Survivor Saturdays – a weekly walking group for survivors and supporters. On Saturday, April 13, with the help of the Cancer Walking Group, Feist-Weiller will hold the 3rd Annual Cancer Survivorship Walkathon at Betty Virginia park. Participants will walk a mile or more to honor survivors and those in treatment. Post walk festivities include food trucks, a health educational fair, and other activities.
The event is free for survivors and LSUHS students. Register by March 22nd to guarantee your t-shirt size!
