Road Hawg Classic 5K/10K
Running
5 km, 10 km
About the event
Road Hawg fans and supporters, as all of you know, we have been dealing
with a global pandemic these last few months. Michigan in particular was one
of the harder hit states within the US. As such, we have been and continue
to live under stay at home directives from the Michigan governor. Many of
you have probably been wondering what will be happening with the race this
year. Up until now, the Road Hawg committee has been keeping an eye on the
situation, evaluating our options and genuinely hoping that the situation
would improve. While there is a good chance that the stay at home directive
will be lifted in time for the original scheduled date of the race, many of
our sponsors and donors were hit hard financially due to all the closures,
and therefore will not be able to support the Road Hawg this year.
Because this is a charity event, we feel it is important to keep the event
running this year. We are the primary fundraiser for the Holiday Gift Lift
program, which provides assistance to service members and their families
during the Holidays. This program will be needed more than ever as financial
troubles will undoubtedly be hitting some of our service members hard this
year.
After numerous committee meetings and a lot of research on how the decision
would impact us financially, we have decided to make the race a virtual race
this year. With this comes a number changes, all of which are very similar
to what other races are doing as well. First and foremost is the timeline.
We will be giving everyone the entire month of July to complete your
run/walk and get your times uploaded by 11:59 PM on July 31st (instructions
to follow at a future date). Both outdoor as well as treadmill runs will be
accepted. And second, to help maximize our donation to the Supporters of the
110th, there will be no awards this year. Winners of each category will be
recognized online however.
Everyone who registers will still receive a free T-Shirt and a race bib.
Although, we do have to cancel the tank tops this year (We'll try those
again next year). We will be announcing T-Shirt pickup times and locations
as we get closer to the end of July. We need to wait and see how the
governor's directives change between now and then. We will be offering an
option to ship T-Shirts, but because shipping will be about $9 and that will
cut substantially into the funds that we donate, we must pass that cost
along to anyone that wishes to have their T-shirt shipped.
There is one awesome upside to a virtual race this year, all of our friends
and family that have moved on from the Battle Creek area, can join us for
one more Road Hawg! We will happily accept registrations from anywhere in
the US, as well as APO/FPO/DPO/MPO locations.
RunSignup will be updated soon with the new registration options. If you
are already registered and have opted for a tank top, we will be reaching
out to you soon to get you selection updated to one of the tech T-shirts.
Optionally, you may go update that yourself on the RunSignup website. I
would also like to remind everyone that you can also donate without running
as well as purchase T-shirts from the RunSignup website as well.
This year the race is all about staying healthy and helping out those in
need. So grab your running/walking shoes and lets all have fun while lending
a helping hand to our service members that otherwise may not get to enjoy
this upcoming holiday season.
About This Race
Run at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base and experience a view that not many people get to see. Our 5K course takes you on a tour of the main base while the 10K course takes you across a bridge into the quieter and more scenic part of the base that includes some additional running surfaces such as crushed rock and packed dirt. In addition, this is a closed course, so there's no traffic to worry about.
