Chombeung Marathon

Chombueng Marathon is a celebrated event among health-focused athletes nationwide.This event began thanks to the passion for running by instructors at Chombueng Village Institute, with Acharn Narong Tiammek and Acharn Somjit Sangapun leading the way. Initially, fewer than 100 participants joined, with a registration fee of just 20 baht. Race numbers were crafted from raw cotton and painted with oil colors. The original course was a 10 km stretch, starting at Khao Bin Cave and finishing at Jom Pol Cave.

Over time, the Chombueng running event evolved into a cherished tradition for both local residents and health-conscious runners throughout the country. The phrase “Those who have never run at Chombueng, they are not genuine runners” captures its revered status.

Participation soared past 5,000 since 1992. In 1989, a 21.1 km distance was added, transforming the event's title to “Chombueng Half Marathon.” Later, in honor of the King’s 72nd birthday, the course expanded to 42.195 km, adopting the title “Chombueng Marathon.”

Athletes often cite Chombueng Marathon as a model event, largely due to the pre-race gathering on Saturday evening. This gathering, designed for athletes who travel and stay overnight, offers a convenient and memorable way to connect with fellow runners before the race day.
