Points forts de la course
STAGE 1 Long route: Alpe d'Huez - Saint Jean de Maurienne | 132Km +3.231 We will start leaving the center of Alpe d’Huez towards the final part of the col de la Sarenne, through an inhospitable road that will take us to the top of this pass after only 200m of ascent. On the descent we will have to be extremely careful because the road is very narrow and twisty. Then we will start the ascent to les Deux Alpes resort whose descent will be made by a different road that will take us to Bourg d’Oisans. There we will ride through the valley on a secondary road to the Verney lake where the Col de la Croix de Fer starts. After 29km of ascent, we will crown and there will only be the small ascent to the Col du Molard of 400m of vertical drop before the arrival in Saint Jean de Maurienne. Short route: Alpe d'Huez - Saint Jean de Maurienne | 132Km +3.231m Start from Alpe d’Huez downhill to le Bourg d’Oisans to join the long route. We will continue to Verney lake to start the Col de la Croix de Fer. From the top, downhill to the Col du Molard (400m elevation gain) and the finish in Saint Jean de Maurienne. STAGE 2 Long route: Saint Jean de Maurienne - Saint Jean de Maurienne | 135Km +2.514m The day starts with 38Km of favorable terrain until we reach the demanding but short climb to the village of Bonvillar (5Km at 8%). Then we will ride another 35Km of favorable terrain that will take us through secondary roads to the town of Feissons-sur-Isère, where the great pass of the day begins: The Col de la Madeleine with more than 1500m of ascent. From the top we have 20km of continuous and very steep descent to La Chambre and from there, the last 12km practically flat to the finish in Saint Jean de Maurienne. Perhaps the easiest stage of Giants that if taken with some calm, will give us a break before the last day. Short route: Saint Jean de Maurienne - Saint Jean de Maurienne | 69Km +2.046m Start in Saint Jean de Maurienne with the first 10Km kilometers coinciding with the long course. In La Chambre we start the ascent to the col de la Madeleine, at the top of which we will enjoy a refreshment and start the descent by the same vertiene we have climbed. Arriving back to La Chambre and after 8Km flat, ascent to the spectacular Lacets de Montvernier to finish again in Saint Jean de Maurienne. STAGE 3 Long route: Saint Jean de Maurienne – Alpe d'Huez | 125Km +4.206m The last stage starts with an ascent to the short but spectacular Lacets de Montvernier. This will be the previous step to one of the giants of the day and surely the most mythical of the Alpine passes, the Galibier, with the col du Télegraphe halfway up. At the top of the Galibier, we will face 47Km of favorable terrain in which we will descend almost 2000m to Bourg d’Oisans where the last climb of Giants will begin, the mythical Alpe d’Huez where this real super challenge will end. Short route: Saint Jean de Maurienne - Alpe d'Huez | 110Km + 3.834m Unlike the long route, the third stage on the short route heads directly to the ascent of the Télegraphe and Galibier. The big climb of the day with more than 2,000m of ascent. From the top, we face the 47Km of descent and at the foot of Alpe d’Huez you will have the option to complete the bike ride with the mythical ascent or opt to finish your challenge and get on one of the vehicles. Either way, you will have enjoyed the Alps to the fullest!
