Détails de la course

Points forts de la course

There is a lap of 21.097 kilometres at the Salzburg Marathon that hast to be run twice by the participants of the main competition. You start in the heart of Salzburg, on the “Staatsbrücke“. Your way leads you alongside river Salzach to Salzburgs beautiful natural part – a guarantee for fresh air! After the beautiful, three kilometers long and straight Hellbrunner Allee you reach the courtyard of world-known Hellbrunn Palace. Through a wooden area and via Morzg you will come back to the urban area of Salzburg. When you have passed the little lake Leopoldskron, you will reach the northest part of the course: Lehener Brücke. Crossed river Salzach you will pass Mirabell Palace, one of the best known sights of Salzburg, and you will have a beautiful view on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage of Salzburg's old town crossing the “Staatsbrücke“. This are the last hunderts of meters of the first lap. The half marathon runners enjoy the great finish straight with a exclusive view on the fortress Hohensalzburg, the most visited sight in Salzburg. Mai 2017

I ran Salzburg Marathon a week after Dusseldorf. The start & finish areas of the run were at Mirabell Square, in front of the majestic Mirabell Palace & the picturesque Mirabell Gardens. It was a small city race with friendly cheer support but accompanied by overcast skies & intermittent rain. The Bib Pick-up was smooth & hassle free at the Salzburg Congress, near the start point from Friday 2pm. They allowed for special cases bib pick-up on Sunday till 8.30am before the marathon. There were stalls selling sporting items, energy bars & gels for runners at the Expo. The Full Marathon & Sparkasse Half Marathon started promptly at 9am on Sunday. There was a 5km Salzburger Nachrichten "After Work Run" on the Friday evening, and a "CUP CINO Breakfast Run" & Salzburg Kurgarten City Walk on Saturday morning. The "Day of Sports", "Get Active" Junior Marathon & Integration Runs were held on Saturday afternoon. The route of the marathon took runners from Mirabell Square south to cross, and run along the Salzach River, in the direction of the countryside. We ran through the beautiful, tree-lined Hellbrunner Allee to the courtyard of Hellbrunn Palace. Then up north through a forested area in Morzg, the oldest district of Salzburg, at slopes of Hellbrunner Mountain, to Lake Leopoldskron & the Schloss Leopolstron which was a rococo palace where some scenes of the "Sounds of Music" portraying the von Trapp family home were screened. At the Mönchsberg, we reached the northernmost part of the course and via the Bridge Lehener Brücke, over the River Salzach again, we returned to urban Salzburg and the Mirabell Square. Full marathon runners did a double loop of the same course. Salzburg Marathon allowed runners who were injured or not feeling well to run direct to the finish line after 21km.

Full marathon runners did a double loop of the same course.

Beautiful, stunning City with 2 loops of running in the countryside, mixing forests, farms and views of snow topped mountains Fabulous flat marathon. We travelled from England and had a superb weekend in Salzburg - lots to see and do and of course do the Sound of Music tour

Great flat marathon

This is a well organised event with a scenic route around the city. The finish line was was presented. But there were a few issues with signage which were confusing, the distance maker wasn't clear if km or miles. The water stops had poor advance warning so runners stumbled upon it at the beginning. I and a few others stumbled a number of times on cones on the road. The drinks in plastic cups at the end was poor and not enough. People need plenty of drinks at the end and half a banana is not good either. The city has enough space for runners to go from A to B and back rather than going around twice for the Marathon.

I came to participate in Salzburg marathon but I didn't like running around the route twice.

The route was super nice, there were moments that you are running entirely in the nature and there are moments that you are running in the historical centre. Also very well organised. I recommend!

One of the prettiest runs you will ever participate in. Extremely well organised, great crowds out on the route and lots of beautiful scenery makes the kilometres pass quickly. It think this would be best for a half marathon, as the marathon does the same route twice.

Nice easy running route in the beautiful city of Salzburg and its surroundings. We'll organised event with a nice post running Stiegl after the finish line.

Excellent route. Both in the old town of Salzburg and also in the country side and surroundings of Schloss Hellbrunn.

Having completed the Two Oceans 56 km Ultra in Cape Town,South Africa just a month earlier, I was very happy to run this easy but very scenic route with my son and to stop(often) to take plenty of photos.Great organisation (and free beer after the 42 km),deserving of a greater marathon field and an elevated status on the world running calendar

Beautiful route,lovely city, good beer

I ran the Salzburg half marathon in early May 2019 and have to say that it is a very picturesque route. Start and finish are located in the old town and it goes from there around the city. The first bit is along the river, then you turn into an unpaved track with spectacular views over fields and the mountains, then you enter a castle, run around a lake, enter a new part of the city and continue into the old town. Marathon runners had to do this loop twice. There were many spectators along the route and there were many bands playing music. There were frequent food and water stations, which were well stocked. The weather was very beautiful, sunny and warm, so it was a pleasure to run. BIB pick up was on two days before the race at a centre not far away from the start. The expo was small, but offered everything a runner needs. Outside the expo were many activities taking place and many of them were for children. With your bib, you could use public transport for free. At the finish there were some stalls that offered food and drinks as much as you want. What I didn't like was, that all FM and HM runners started together and had to wait in a narrow street. This could be avoided by having separate starting times. Despite that, I highly recommend this run, no matter what distance you want to do, full, half or 10k.
