Running a Marathon with Robin Hood
18 Jul, 2014 (Fri)
Credit : sweatshop_online
Hello, on September 28th 2014, you’ll be organizing the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?
The race takes place in Nottingham, UK.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
It is a fast flat course that enables runners to get a season PB. The course takes them down the tree-lined University Boulevard, around Highfields Lake and through the Trent building courtyard at the University of Nottingham, one of the most iconic buildings in Nottingham.
From there, you will head back towards the City Centre and Trent Bridge, where you will proceed towards Colwick Country Park and the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont Country Park before winding your way along the river to the finish at Victoria Embankment.

Enjoy views of Nottingham Castle, see the famous Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham Forest F.C. and Notts County F.C, take in the breathtaking scenery at both Colwick and Holme Pierrepont Country Parks and fantastic views along the riverbank before entering the race village, which will feature a feast of family entertainment in an area where runners, spectators, families and friends can meet to celebrate race day and everyone’s achievements.
How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
We expect about 10,000 runners for the half marathon and 2,500 for the marathon.
Do you organize other races during the Weekend? If so, on what distances?
In addition to the marathon and half marathon, there is a children’s mini marathon 2.5km on the same day.
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
The weather should be just fine: not too hot, ideal for marathon running.

Have you planned festivities around the marathon?
We have a race village with super atmosphere, kit tents, a VIP package. There will be great food available in the race village, on the course there are bands playing music, plenty of crowds cheering, and drinks station. Finishers get a goody bag and a medal.
The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Nottingham before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
Combine the race with a weekend in the glorious historic City of Nottingham, home to Robin Hood, lace making, and with access to some of the best English countryside.
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon?
Set yourself a challenge for the autumn– enter the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon or Half Marathon in Nottingham on 28th September; notoriously fast and flat, the courses offer an opportunity to get a PB for the season. Plus, race finishers get a unique Robin Hood medal and goody bag.
On race day you can also enjoy family fun, a race village experience and refuel with some fantastic food.
Entries are filling fast.
