Rock the Locks 5K

Take a run through the historic Soo Locks Park in downtown Sault Ste. Marie this summer! The 2022 Rock the Locks 5K will be an In-Person race on Saturday, June 11, 2022.  Proceeds from the event will help fund future events for the community and visitors as well as development opportunities for historic downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

DAY OF REGISTRATION 4-6pm: $45 per runner cash only. Includes finisher medal, post race snacks, and Tech shirt (size not guaranteed).

The race will start at 6pm at Brady Park. The starting line will be a wave start to avoid congestion at the narrow Soo Locks gate. Bibs 1-20 will be called first to the start line for the 6pm start, no more than five minutes later the next wave of 20 runners will leave the starting line and so on. The timed finish line will close at 8:00 pm.

All early registered runners will be guarantied their requested size FITTED Tech shirt included in the registration. All registrations after the early registration cut off will receive a Tech shirt but the size is not guarantied. All runners will receive a finisher medal and fun snacks at the finish line.

Rock the Locks 5K Frequently Asked Questions  

What time does the run start?  

The race will start at 6pm at Brady Park. The starting line will be a wave start to avoid congestion at the narrow Soo Locks gate. Bibs 1-20 will be called first to the start line for the 6pm start, no more than five minutes later the next wave of 20 runners will leave the starting line and so on. 

Where do I pick-up my race packet?  

Packet pick-up is from 4-6pm in Brady Park (start/finish line location). Bib and Tech shirts can be picked up under the pavilion in the park. 

Do I need an ID to enter the Soo Locks Park? 

No, however those with bags, strollers, backpacks etc., are subject to search at security  checkpoints.  

Can I bring my dog? 

While the Rock the Locks 5K crew loves our furry friends, they are not permitted in Brady Park or the Soo Locks Park.  

If I am pushing a stroller during this 5K do I need to register my child?  

Children in a stroller do not need to be registered, however strollers are subject to search at  security checkpoints.  

Where is the 5k starting line?

The start and finish line for this 5K will be at Brady Park off of Water Street.

Where is parking? 

Parking is available along Water Street and areas surrounding Brady Park.  

Why is this a nighttime race? 

Rock the Locks 5K is a nighttime race to add to the totally unique factor to the run.  

Will the course be visible at night? 

Worry not! This course will be well marked and easy to follow.  

If I cannot attend, is my registration fee refundable? 

This 5K is non-refundable and non-transferable to other racers, however you may still receive your t-shirt. This shirt can be redeemed during registration the day of the event only.  

Will prizes be awarded for this 5k? 

Prizes will be awarded to the top three runners in every age category.  

Top Male and Female, and Top Masters Male (45 and older), Female (45 and older) and  prizes to be awarded to top three runners in every age category. (males and females)  

Age Categories for Rock the Locks: youngest runner-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-24, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ . Prizes awarded for top overall male and top overall  female, top masters male and top masters female (45 and older). Age category prize will be awarded to top three males and top three females in each age group. Overall winners will not be eligible to win age group award.  

Will I receive a medal? 

All participants who complete the 5K course will receive a custom Rock the Locks 5K medal.  

Is this a chip timed event? 

YES, Rock the Locks 5K is a chip timed event. 

Can non-registered family and friends run alongside me?  

Family and friend support is highly encouraged in designated spectator areas, however, non-registered persons pacing the runner across finish line is strictly prohibited as this disrupts  the timing. Any race participant who crosses the finish line with a non-registered person will be disqualified.  

Where can we check results?  

Results will be available online. Please look for QR Codes at the finish line to access the results. You will be able to lookup by bib number or name. The link will also be available on our official Facebook page.  

Is this event rain or shine?  

YES! However, in the event of inclement weather (example: lightening) the race will be  postponed until conditions are safe. In the event of a postponement, runners and spectators  will be encouraged to shelter in place until the run resumes.  

Can my family and friends come to cheer me on?  

We highly encourage spectators. Spectator areas will be posted on the course map. (coming  soon)  

Will I receive a race bib?  

At packet pickup you will receive an official race bib to be worn visibly on the front of your shirt.  

Will there be food and beverage available?  

Complimentary snacks and beverages will be open  to all runners at the conclusion of the run at Brady Park. One water station will be setup along the course.  

Is this a closed course?  

No, while we may have some road closures, the course will mostly be open to thru traffic.  Course marshals and auxiliary police will be placed at intersections. Runners are expected to exercise caution along the entire route to ensure personal safety.  

Are racers able to utilize personal headphones or individual earbuds on the race course?  

Use of headphones or earbuds is discouraged on the course but not prohibited. We hope you will soak in the music provided along the race course.
